golf gti mk2, won’t start after flood, help!!!?

our street got flooded on saturday,and my boyfriend’s golf was outside, the environmental agency and the fireman were constantly driving past so the car got absolutely soaked. 4 days later the water’s finally gone and the car has had 1 1/2 days to dry but now it won’t start. it try’s to it ust won’t fire up.
we’ve chargerd the battery, got a new dizzy cap cleaned the spark plugs and tried bump starting it. its got plenty of fuel and oil.it’s a three door, Golf Gti MK2, Made in 1990. Please can anyone help!!!

did check the air filter the inlet is under the car,and did u say u changed all the fluid / oil/ well water may have into the gas. take off the air tube and spray starter fluid in the intake
