VW GOLF MK3 Gear stick wont pop back to neutral?

Hello all i have a mk3 golf and when i change gear it does not go back to the neautral postion, i think it could be something to do with, a broken spring, can anyone confirm this for me, and is it easy to fix thanks everyone

check the clutch cable …and yeah probably the spring is broken
