Small car suggestions?

I’m looking for a small hatchback car – about Golf size although I definately don’t want a Golf. New, automatic, engine size 1.6 or under ( so my daughters can drive it), room for shopping, dog and 3/4 people at a pinch for shortish journeys. A bit different perhaps. Any suggestions? I’m based in Europe.
