why do people think that wearing clothes from hollister, a & e, and american eagle make you a prep?

Prep is a lifestyle and there is nothing wrong with it. Wearing clothes from those stores do not make you a prep at all. Preps do not wear really short shorts or tight t-shirts with little phrases across the front. The wear classy clothes and look put together and cute. They like playing tennis, lacrosse, golf, horse back riding ect; and they typically are well off financially.

Wearing clothes from Hollister, American Eage, and Abercrombie & Fitch do not make you a prep at all. A prep is more like how you described it. They place tennis, lacrosse & golf. You won’t see a prep wearing a slutty skirt. Preps are all about the polo, sweater, cardigans, button down shirts, & such. They go for the more expensive things in life.
